For the first time there was a call for submissions to the photo exhibition at photokina 2010. As a result, everyone – from amateurs to professional photographers – has had the opportunity to participate at photokina.
Together with Photoindustrie-Verband e.V., a selection was made from the applications received to decide whose images will be presented at photokina 2010.
NEW: Spotlight Tours - talk and walk with experts
The power of images can be a curse – particularly if there is an overwhelming abundance of impressions to be digested. With a team of art historians and photographers, Anke von Heyl is offering a special service for visitors with her Culture and Event agency at this year’s photokina.
True to the motto “You only see what you know”, this service offers one-hour tours of the photo exhibitions accompanied by experts. Interested parties are thus provided with exciting background information and can be part of enjoyable discussions and conversations.
You can find a schedule of the tours below. The groups will be limited to 20 participants and tickets will be available at designated information kiosks and online for €5.00.

Self Portraits of Photographers
The organisers of this exhibition of historical and present-day photography from the image agency akg-images in Berlin (Archiv für Kunst und Geschichte - Archive for Art and History) asked themselves one question:
“Where is the photographer in the image?”
There are both surprises and answers: in photographs, the photographers logically remain invisible to us as they are “behind” the lens. Usually, “all” that we find out about them and their view of the world is through “the image” itself and the photographer's perspective and style. The only way that the creator of the image can appear in it is through tricks – and this doesn’t always produce an accurate portrait. However it does create something very special: a photographer’s self-portrait.
In an “insider show” by and for photographers, impressive exceptions to the rule are presented.
From the picture archives of akg-images based in Paris, London and Berlin a few curious finds have been compiled to show a rare view of the photographer, one that has never been seen before.
Reflected by chance, appearing as a shadow in a photograph or artistically self-produced - the exhibition, which features only black and white photographs from the history of photography, demonstrates how to manage to photograph oneself while taking a picture.
The creators of images are brought back into the light of their own work by means of photography itself.

Blende – Europe’s largest contest presents itself
Europe’s largest contest for amateur photographers, the German Newspaper Readers’ Photo Contest “Blende”, will be presenting a compilation of outstanding photographs from the last two years at photokina 2010. The “Blende” exhibit, which features over 70 photographs displaying a wonderful kaleidoscope of the creativity of today’s amateur photographers, can be seen in the centre boulevard 4/5 at the Photoindustrie-Verband and Prophoto GmbH stand.
Superlatives are in demand when it comes to “Blende”, which is characterised by the pure passion and devotion of the participating photographers as well as an abundance of diversity. One decisive factor for this may have to do with the fact that the German Newspaper Readers’ Photo Contest is open to all age groups from 4 to over 80 years old. It is the power of their images that make the contest so striking, distinctive and unique.
